Chia is grown in the Peruvian Andes. Mainly in the departments of Arequipa and Cuzco at elevations above 1,000 m and often reaching 2,750m in the central Andes of Peru.
Chia harvesting takes place from August to December. However the availability of the product is all the year because of its extended shelf life (36 months).
